Originating from Japan and Korea, this robust little palm is very tolerant of exposed, windy and wet conditions, making it ideal for the UK. It grows to only 2.5m and is perfect for smaller or patio gardens. Something of a rarity in the UK, but rapidly becoming very sought after. Be one of the first to grow it!  Minimum temperature around -5C so it will need winter protection with a fleece jacket for the first few years and in very cold areas.

Hardy Palm (to -5C)
Height: to 2.5m
Position: Full sun in well drained soil

Packet of 5 seeds

GROWING GUIDE

Pre-sowing Treatment: Soak the seeds for 3 days changing the water twice a day.

Sowing Instructions: Sow at any time of the year. Sow individually in small pots of moist seed compost, eg. John Innes, and cover lightly. Seal pots in a polythene bag and place in a propagator or other warm place (eg. on a windowsill above a radiator). Maintain an optimum temperature of 30C during the day and 20C at night. Germination can be erratic but should take place in 1-3 months.

Growing Instructions: As the seedlings emerge, gradually increase ventilation by opening the propagator vents or the polythene bag. Grow the seedlings on, re-potting as necessary and protect from frost for the first couple of winters. Harden off completely before planting out in a sunny, sheltered position away from strong winds which can tear the leaves. Protect with bubble wrap and/or a fleece jacket for the first few years and in very cold temperatures.
