GROWING GUIDE

Pre-sowing Treatment: Put seeds into boiling water for 5 seconds then transfer to cold water and leave to soak for 24 hours.

Sowing Instructions: Sow at any time of the year. Sow very thinly in a tray or pot on the surface of a good seed compost and place in a propagator or seal inside a polythene bag. Maintain an optimum temperature of 20-25C and germination should take place in 1-3 months. Note: Germination can be very erratic, so sow thinly and prick out the seedlings as they become large enough to handle disturbing the rest of the compost as little as possible.

Growing Instructions: Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm pots and grow on at around 10-15C, repotting as needed. The young plants can be moved outdoors to a coldframe during their first spring after frosts have finished. When large enough plant out in a sunny or partially sunny position in moist, free-draining soil. The shrub will die back in early winter much as hardy fuchsias do, so leave the stems over winter and trim back in spring when all frosts have finished.
