Albizzia lophantha [syn. Paraserianthes] (Plume Albizzia) seeds - RP Seeds

Albizzia lophantha [syn. Paraserianthes] (Plume Albizzia) seeds

Exotic looking, deciduous small tree or large shrub from Australia with beautiful, acacia-like, bipinnate foliage and bottlebrush-like spikes of pink or sulphur-yellow flowers. Closely related to the better known Persian Silk Tree - Albizzia julibrissin and as such also suitable for bonsai treatment and for containers. This shrub is not completely hardy, so will need frost protection with fleece in winter.

Half-Hardy Shrub/Tree - protect from frost with fleece.
Flowers: Summer
Height: up to 8m if not pruned back.
Position: Sun

Packet of 20 seeds

Pre-sowing Treatment: Soak the seeds in tepid water for 12 hours.

Sowing Instructions: Sow at any time of the year. Sow very thinly in trays or pots of good seed compost at a depth of 3mm and place in a propagator or seal inside a polythene bag. Maintain an optimum temperature of 20-25C and germination should take place in 1-3 months. Note: Germination can be very erratic, so sow thinly and prick out the seedlings as they become large enough to handle disturbing the rest of the compost as little as possible.

Growing Instructions: Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm pots. Over-winter at a temperature of about 5C.

Aftercare Instructions: Harden off and plant out when all risk of frost has passed 2m apart in a sheltered sunny site. Prefers a rich, light, well drained soil.
