Very unusual climber originating from the rain forests of Brazil with peculiar maroon flowers, marbled with white which resemble a dutch pipe! This striking plant will be a great talking point & is perfect for a conservatory, greenhouse or a warm sheltered spot outdoors in summer.
Tender Climber (Min 10c)
Height: 5m but can be pruned back
Position: Sun but will need shade from midday sun in summer.
Packet of 20 seeds
Pre-sowing Treatment: Soak the seeds in water which starts off hand hot for 48 hours.
Sowing Instructions: Sow at any time of the year very thinly on the surface of a moist, peat-based seed compost, eg Levington. Do not cover the seed. Seal in a polythene bag or place in a propagator and maintain an optimum temperature of 20-25C. Germination should take place in 1-3 months and can be erratic hence the need to sow thinly.
Growing Instructions: When the seedlings are large enough to handle, pot up into small pots and grow on in slightly cooler conditions in plenty of light but shaded from direct sunlight. Repot as necessary and place in a sunny position, shaded from the midday sun in summer. Needs a minimum temperature of 10C but can be placed outdoors in summer.
