Catananche caerulea alba (Cupid's Dart) seeds

Very pretty perennial with white, papery flowers with a contrasting purple centre above grey green foliage.  A versatile plant that attracts bees and butterflies, is drought tolerant and also excellent for cutflowers.  First year flowering from an early sowing.

GROWING GUIDE

Sow at any time of year except mid summer as too much heat may result in spindly plants.

• Sow on the surface of a moist, well drained seed compost in pots or trays and just cover with a fine sprinkling of sieved compost.
• Seal in a polythene bag and place on a windowsill, or put in a propagator and maintain a minimum temperature of 20C.
• Germination sould occur after 14 to 30 days. 
  
  
• As the seedlings emerge, increase ventilation by opening the bag or propagator vents.
• Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7-9cm pots.
• Grow on in slightly cooler conditions with plenty of light but shaded from direct sun.
• When established, in mid spring gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions by placing plants outside during the day for 2 weeks before planting out.
