We just had to add this beautiful colour to our collection of Echium pininana! Grow it with Blue Steeple and Snow Tower for great dramatic effect. Amazing plant from the Canary Islands with a huge flower spike that rises from a rosette of lush green foliage. These magnificent Echiums are a magnet for bees with their densely packed flower spikes. Takes a while to produce the first spike but well worth the wait!
Will need to be kept frost-free so grow it in a 30cm+ container and move to a frost free place for winter. In mild areas, can be planted in the garden and wrapped up in winter with fleece.
Half Hardy Perennial (min 0C)
Flowers: Summer
Height: 4m
Position: Full sun in well-drained soil or containers
Packet of 20 seeds
Caution: All parts can cause skin irritation.

GROWING GUIDE
Sow at any time of year except mid summer as too much heat may result in spindly plants.
- Sow on the surface of a moist, well drained seed compost in pots or trays.
- Seal in a polythene bag and place on a windowsill or in a propagator and maintain a temperature of 18-20C.
- Germination should occur after 15-60 days.
- As the seedlings emerge, gradually increase ventilation by opening the propagator vents or the bag.
- Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 9cm pots.
- Grow on in slightly cooler conditions with plenty of light, but shaded from direct sun.
- When established, in mid spring gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions by placing plants outside during the day for 2 weeks before planting out.
- Move container plants to a frost free place for winter. In mild areas, can be planted in the garden and wrapped up in winter with fleece.
