Unusual, evergreen shrub with grey-green foliage, white-felted beneath, and exotic-looking flowers with crimson and white petals and prominent crimson stamens. After a long, hot summer, these are followed by egg-shaped, edible berries with a guava-like flavour. Hardy in mild winter areas especially in a sunny, sheltered position. Elsewhere, protect from severe frost with fleece.

GROWING GUIDE

Pre-sowing Treatment: Rinse the seeds well with tepid water 3 times before sowing.

Sowing Instructions: Sow at any time of the year. Sow in pots or trays of moist seed compost, eg. John Innes, at a depth of 2mm. Seal in a polythene bag or place in a propagator and maintain an optimum temperature of 18-25C. Germination should take place in 21 to 60 days. Gradually increase ventilation as the seedlings emerge by opening the bag or propagator vents.

Growing Instructions: When the seedlings are large enough to handle, pot up into small pots and grow on in slightly cooler conditions in plenty of light but shaded from direct sunlight. Overwinter in a frost free place for the first couple of winters before hardening off and planting out in a sunny position. Hardy to –5C when mature – may need protection in very cold regions.

Due to phytosanitary regulations we are unable to send seeds outside the UK.  If a mail forwarding service in the UK is used to send your order abroad, please be aware that we will not take responsibility for orders confiscated by customs.

          
 

If an order is returned to us as undelivered by the postal service, we will refund the cost of the products purchased, not the delivery charge. When a service other than standard delivery is used, we will also deduct this from the refund (eg. signed for, special delivery or courier charges).  It is the customer's responsibility to ensure the delivery address on the order is correct.
