Lobelia Queen Victoria

Lobelia Queen Victoria seeds

A lovely plant with racemes of luminous scarlet blooms and unusual reddish-purple foliage. Perfect for adding contrast to the border and brightening up the garden in late summer to mid-autumn. Needs protection from severe frost as it is not entirely hardy, but easy to lift or mulch over winter.

Winner of the Award of Garden Merit.

Half Hardy Perennial (protect from severe or prolonged frost)
Flowers: Late summer to early autumn
Height: 1m
Position: Sun or semi-shade

Packet of 50 seeds

Sowing Instructions: Sow at any time of the year except early-mid summer on the surface of a moist, free-draining seed compost (eg. John Innes), do not cover the seed and seal in a polythene bag. Place in the fridge for 6 weeks, then propagate at 20 to 25C and germination should take place in 14-30 days.

Growing Instructions: Grow the seedlings on in slightly cooler conditions and when they are large enough to handle, pot on into 7.5cm pots. Overwinter if necessary in a frost-free place. When large enough, and after all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions before planting out 30cm apart in moist, well-drained soil in a lightly shaded position.

Caution: Harmful if eaten.
