Mina lobata [syn. Ipomoea]

Mina lobata [syn. Ipomoea] (Spanish Flag) seeds

£2.20

Splendid, vigorous climber with very unusual flowers produced in profusion all summer long. The tubular flowers are borne on slender spikes and are crimson when they first emerge, fading to orange, then yellow and finally to white. At any one time, flowers in all these colours can be found on each stem. Truly spectacular and brilliant for cutting.
Often grown as an annual as it is not frost-hardy, but can be grown in a container and moved to a heated greenhouse/conservatory for the winter.

GROWING GUIDE

Pre-Sowing Instructions: Soak the seeds in water which starts off hand hot until the seeds start to swell.

Sowing Instructions: Sow at any time of the year, at a depth of about 3mm in pots or trays of moist, free-draining seed compost (eg. John Innes). Seal in a polythene bag or place in a propagator and maintain an optimum temperature of around 21C. Germination should occur after 20-25 days. As the seedlings emerge, gradually increase ventilation by opening the bag or propagator vents.

Growing Instructions: Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 9cm pots. Grow on in cooler conditions (about 18C) with plenty of light, but shaded from direct sun and over-winter at a temperature of about 5C. When established, gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions and plant out after the risk of frost has passed in a sunny position. Move back to a frost-free place for the winter before the first frosts in autumn.
