Miscanthus sinensis Hybrids (Chinese Silver Grass) seeds

Majestic ornamental grass forming clumps of deep green foliage from which rise the impressive, silky flower plumes on tall stems up to 2m.  Miscanthus add architectural impact and drama to the garden both as a backdrop to a border and as stand alone specimen plants.

Our Hybrids mixture contains seed harvested from a selection of varieties with many colours and forms. This mixture will look stunning when planted together in drifts. The flower plumes start to appear in late summer, through autumn and last well into winter,  A beautiful sight on a frosty morning!

GROWING GUIDE

Sowing Instructions: Sow at any time of year.  Sow thinly onto the surface of a moist, free-draining seed compost. Do not cover the seed or exclude light. Propagate at about 20C in a propagator, greenhouse or on a windowsill indoors sealed in a polythene bag. Germination should begin to take place in 10 to 90 days and can be erratic hence the need to sow thinly so that seedlings can be removed without disturbing the rest of the compost too much. As soon as some of the seedlings begin to emerge, ventilate gradually, maintain a temperature of around 15C and take care not to over-water.

Growing Instructions: Grow the seedlings on, shaded lightly from direct sunlight and when large enough to handle, pot up individually into 8 or 9cm pots. When large enough, harden off in spring (place outdoors during the day for 10 days after frosts have passed) then plant out into well-drained soil in a sunny position.
