Rudbeckia hirta Marmalade (Coneflower) seeds

Striking annual with masses of vivid golden orange daisy-like flowers with a contrasting dark brown, almost black, central eye.  A sturdy plant, growing to 45-60cm and flowering from June right through to autumn frosts.  A good food source for bees and birds and excellent for long lasting cutflowers.

GROWING GUIDE

• Sow February to April on the surface of a moist, free-draining seed compost and just cover the seed with a fine sprinkling of compost. 
• Seal in a polythene bag and place on a bright windowsill or in a propagator and maintain at a minimum temperature of 20C.
• Check regularly to make sure the compost has not dried out and water as necessary.
• Germination should take 14 to 30 days. 
  

• As the seedlings emerge, increase ventilation by opening the bag or propagator vents.
• When large enough to handle, pot up individually into 9cm pots and grow the seedlings on at a slightly cooler temperature.
• Keep watered and pinch out the growing tips to encourage bushiness.
• When well established, in mid spring gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions by placing them outdoors during the day for 2 weeks before planting out.
