Native perennial commonly found on pond, stream and river margins with narrow, sword-like leaves and distinctive, upright, brown seed heads much like sausages on sticks! Very beneficial to frogs and other amphibians as well as birds and small mammals. A must for the pond or bog garden.

Position: Sun to semi shade. Will grow in up to 40cm of water.

Sowing Instructions: Sow any time of year. Sow 5mm deep in pots or trays of moist, free-draining seed compost. Propagate at 15 to 20C in a propagator, greenhouse or on a windowsill indoors sealed in a polythene bag. Germination should begin to take place in 14 to 21 days. As soon as some of the seedlings begin to emerge, ventilate gradually, maintain a temperature of around 15C and take care not to over-water.
Growing Instructions: Grow the seedlings on, shaded lightly from direct sunlight and when large enough to handle, pot up individually into 8 or 9cm pots. When large enough, plant out into moist soil or water up to 40cm deep in a sunny or semi shaded position.
