Uncinia egmontiana (Egmont Hook Sedge) seeds

Evergreen, hardy grass, native to New Zealand, forming clumps of reddish orange leaves topped with black seeded flower spikes in summer.  Very reliable and excellent for borders and containers.  Adds contrast to ornamental grass plantings.

GROWING GUIDE

Sowing Instructions: Sow any time of year.  Sow thinly onto the surface of a moist, free-draining seed compost and just cover the seed with a fine sprinking of compost.  Propagate at about 15C making sure the compost does not dry out.  Germination should begin within a few weeks but may take far longer and can be erratic hence the need to sow the seeds thinly so seedlings can be potted up without disturbing the rest of the seeds too much.

Growing Instructions: When the seedlings are large enough to handle, pot up into 8-9cm pots and grow them on shaded lightly from direct sunlight.  When established, harden off by placing the plants outdoors during the day and bringing them back in at night for 10 days, then plant out in a sunny or semi shaded position.
