Verbascum bombyciferum Polar Summer - Mullein

Verbascum bombyciferum Polar Summer (Mullein) seeds

One of the tallest of all Verbascums, growing up to 2m, this stately perennial forms rosettes of silvery white felted foliage from which rise tall, fleecy stems densely packed with bright yellow flowers. A bold statement in any garden, brilliant for adding definition to the back of the border and colour to architectural planting schemes. Easy to grow and will produce lots of seed for new plants the next year.

Place in a propagator or seal in a polythene bag and place in a greenhouse or windowsill indoors and maintain a temperature of 18 to 21C. Germination should take place in 14-30 days. Maintain a temperature of about 15C after germination and gradually increase ventilation by opening the bag or propagator vents.

Growing Instructions: When large enough to handle, pot up individually into 7-9cm pots and grow on in good light, but shaded from direct sunlight. Overwinter if necessary in a frost-free place. When plants are established, gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions before planting out in late spring or early summer after all risk of frost has passed in a sunny position.
