GROWING GUIDE
Sowing Instructions: Sow at any time of the year except early to mid-summer. Sow on the surface of a moist, well-drained seed compost, eg. John Innes in pots or trays. Completely cover the seed with sieved compost or vermiculite. Place in the fridge or other cold place between 2-5C for 2 weeks as a cold period helps break dormancy and improve germination. Then, move to a propagator or seal in a polythene bag and maintain an optimum temperature of around 18C. Make sure that the compost remains moist but take care not to over wet it. Germination usually occurs in 14 -21 days. As the seedlings emerge, gradually increase ventilation by opening the bag or propagator vents.
Growing Instructions: Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm pots. Grow on in cooler conditions with plenty of light, but shaded from direct sun. In the spring, gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions and grow on until mature enough to be planted out in the garden. Likes a sunny position in any reasonable soil. In very cold regions where temperatures drop below -5C, protect with a mulch in winter.
